This movie won three Filmfare South-Telugu Awards. These were for Best Director (K. Vishwanath), Best Actress (Jayaprada), and Best Actor (Kamal Haasan).

This film was showcased at the International Film Festival of India and received international critical acclaim, especially at the Asia Pacific Film Festival.

After its phenomenal success, this movie was dubbed in Tamil under the title 'Salangai Oli', and in Malayalam as well as 'Sangeeta Sangamam'. Kamal Haasan, who is proficient in all these languages lent his voice for all three versions.
