Set in the holy city of Benaras, Raanjhanaa is the story of a Tamil Bramhin Kundan who develops a crush on the Muslim Zoya. In fact, it was a crush-at-first-sight for Kundan. This grows into love as they arrive on the threshold of puberty. The boy proposes but the girl rejects. But after getting slapped 16 times, slitting his wrist and some emotional blackmailing later, the boy gets his way with the girl. Their romance is killed by the girl's orthodox parents when she is sent to another city to finish her studies. Eight years later, the boy waits eagerly for his beloved to come back, however the girl is now interested is someone else. Doomed love, ill-timed death, revenge and some youth-led political campaigns dot the rest of the film's story.
Continuity In the scene were Kundan and Murari return from hospital to Kundan's wedding, they are on a 'Piaggio' scooter belonging to Murari. But in the previous traveling scene, both were on a 'Bajaj' scooter belonging to Kundan.
