Set against the stark backdrop of abject poverty, this poignant and powerful tale delves into the life of Kutappan, and angry and disgruntled young man who labels in a stone quarry. Over a period of time, he finds himself unable to control his rage, guilt, anger and resentment increasingly becoming anti-social. Everytime he called by his nickname 'Soap Kutappan' he flies into a rage and eventually ‘ascends’ into insanity. In flashback, the tale portrays the actions and exploits of his father, tracing the reasons behind Kutappan's guilt and anger. Symbolic and subtle, this evocative tale works with numerous allusions to both biblical and folk sources as it investigates the meaning of fatherhood, the youth’s main problem.
