Where did you watch this movie?

Professional photographers Sudhir Mishra and Vinod Chopra open a studio in the prestigious Haji Ali area, and hope to make enough money to keep it running. After a disastrous start, they are given some work by the editor of "Khabardar", a publication that exposes the scandalous lives of the rich and the famous. They accept it and start working with the editor herself, Shobha Singh. They also decide to enter their name in a contest to win Rs.5000/- and take a number of photographs all over the city. In one of the photographs they see a man with a gun. Upon enlarging it, they find out that the killer is none other than builder Tarneja. Upon further investigation they find out that he has killed Municipal Commissioner D'Mello and left his body behind some bushes. Before the duo could get to the body, it disappears. Disappointed the hapless duo continue working with Shobha. Then they find out where the body is with Tarneja's rival builder, Ahuja. They locate it and take a number of photographs of the corpse, and wheel it with them with the hopes of exposing Tarneja. They provide this information to Shobha, who in turn starts to blackmail Tarneja, who in turn plants a bomb to kill her and her two associates - but unfortunately the bomb explodes right in the face of Tarneja and his employees' faces. Then the duo take the corpse, and wheel it with them, but not before Tarneja, Ahuja, the new Mun. Comm. Srivastava, Shobha and others also get involved - resulting in a comic mix-up with burkha-clad woman. The climax is set upon a stage dramatization of Mahabharat, which hilariously turns into the ill-fated romance of Salim and Anarkali - with the corpse taking the part of Draupadi and Anarkali, and the vile Duryodan pledging to save Drupadi;s honor at any cost!! What will be the fate of the corpse and our hapless heroes is only seen to be believed!!!

Trivia:
The two lead characters in the movie are named after the two assistants in the movie, Sudhir Mishra and Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

Anita Kanwar dubbed for the character played by Bhakti Bharve.

Anupam Kher's voice was used to dub a construction worker talking to Pankaj Kapur.

Director Kundan Shah paid tribute to the film _Blow-Up (1966)_ in his film . The park where the two photographers shoot a dancing monkey is named Antonioni Park, after the director of 'Blow-Up', Michelangelo Antonioni. The photo of the monkey is blown up and it leads to the discovery of a murder.

Anupam Kher was cast as a "disco killer" in the film, a gangster who eliminated his victims while he danced. All his scenes were shot, but discarded from the final cut at the editing stage.

The code "Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Ata Hai (What makes Albert Pinto angry)" which Naseeruddin Shah's character gives to Satish Kaushik's character is actually the name of a film of which Kundan Shah, among other things, was the assistant director and in which Naseeruddin Shah played the lead character, Albert Pinto.

There is a reference by Vinod (Naseeruddin Shah) early in the movie, to borrowing money from Kundan Shah. Kundan Shah is the name of the director. This is a reference to the money borrowed (or lent to them) by NFDC (National Film Development Corporation). The movie was the winning entry of a Script writing contest, organized by NFDC. It ultimately ended up costing more than the sanctioned amount of Rs.700,000.

The names of the two lead characters played by "Naseeruddin Shah" and "Ravi Baswani" are references to the names of the production controller, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and the assistant director, Sudhir Mishra, both of whom went on to become well-known Hindi movie directors.

Kundan Shah won the National Award for the Best First Film of a Director in 1984.

This Movie was made on such a shoestring budget that Naseeruddin Shah, the most well known actor was paid only Rs 15,000 ($300) for the movie. Naseer also had to bring his own Nikon camera to the shootings to use as a prop for his character, who was a photographer. Towards the end of the shooting, this camera was stolen, which amongst other painful memories of the making of the film, Naseer still reminisces about.
