Fulfilling his duty and protecting law is the life of Inspector Ranjit Kumar and this is his only religion in life. He leads a happy life with his loving wife, Bharti Their happiness knows no bounds when Bharti was admitted in the hospital for her first delivery.
Soon, their joy turns into sorrow, when Bharti's father informs them that that the child was stillborn. However, within a year, she succeeds in giving birth to a male child, Ravi. Over time, they are so happy that they forget about the initial loss they had suffered.
Soon however, Ravi falls into bad company and shows a penchant for criminal behaviour, gravitating towards gambling, burglary and other petty crimes. Unable to understand his behaviour, they are forced to admit him into a hospital, hoping to force some discipline into him. However, he soon runs away.
Being a police Inspector Ranjit Kumar finds Ravi''s true location, but he hides this secret from Bharti. She grieves over the loss of her son. Ravi eventually returns home and blames his father for all the suffering caused by his own misdeeds.
Ranjit Kumar is a sincere police officer, who embarks upon a mission to expose and bring to justice many anti-social and anti-national elements. He is shocked to see that his own son is one of them. After learning that Ravi is working against him, while living under his own roof, Ranjit Kumar asks him to leave the house for ever. Unable to bear the conflict between father and son, Bharti suffers from a stroke and becomes paralysed.
As fate would have it, their first child,, Ramu had survived and was brought up by a maid servant, Ganga in a village. Ramu is a fearless man, who saves the life of a beautiful young woman, Poonam, who is the daughter of an army man, Major Gopal. Through Maj Gopal, he becomes friendly with Ranjit Kumar and Bharti.
