Trivia:
The film uses the term "Cutters" to refer to Bloomington townies who work cutting rock in the local limestone quarries.

The actual local nickname for Bloomington rock cutters were "stoners" or "stonies", but the production team went with "cutters" so as not to draw a parallel to drug references for viewers who were not raised in the area.

The Indiana Student Foundation had initially promised director Peter Yates 20,000 student extras for the final race scenes. However, since only 3,000 showed up, Yates had to change his camera angles.

According to Peter Yates, in the scene where Katherine slaps Dave, the slap wasn't faked but was real and rather hard. This scene took over 6 takes, with several onlookers flinching every time Dennis Christopher got slapped.
