Trivia:
The film's plot was inspired by the Stuxnet's case, a computer worm designed to attack industrial programmable logic controllers. Discovered in 2010, Stuxnet ruined almost one-fifth of Iran's nuclear facilities and his origin couldn't be officially identified.

The first Michael Mann film to be shot with anamorphic lenses since Heat (1995).

Michael Mann donated HK$300,000 (US$38,500) to The Community Chest of Hong Kong in the name of Hang Seng Bank, to thank the bank for allowing him to film for 5 evenings in the bank's lobby area.

The film was originally titled "Cyber".

Hackers served as on-set consultants during filming.

Blackhat marks the very first Michael Mann movie to be shot entirely in digital. (Ali, Collateral, Miami Vice, and Public Enemies were shot mostly in digital but had certain sequences shot in 35mm film)
