Angamaly Diaries - "oru katta local padam" The tagline by maverick filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery couldn't be more accurate and spot-on when it came to creating an absolute masterpiece of a local malayalam 'padam'!
Angamaly Diaries is by far the most hard hitting film from the Malayalam industry in a very long time. Dripping in reality to the extent that you can feel the sweat and grime, and feel the pulsating raw energy in each of the characters. The entire film is shot on real location and the music composed by Prashant Pillai is a delectable mix of regional folk and natural sound and lends the film it's rustic charm. Lijo Jose Pellissery gives a quirky edgy feel to the brilliant script by actor Chemban Vinod and gets a whole bunch of fresh actors and technicians to land a knockout punch on the viewer! The screenplay is slow and languid one moment and as you sink into your seats, you get whacked out of your senses the very next moment. N that's exactly where the writer and director have been in absolute sync. More than a movie, they create an experience..
Angamaly Diaries narrates the life and trials of a bunch of youngsters from the town of Angamaly. Their everyday struggles, relationships, love lives, their tryst with pork trade, their run-ins with the law- everything is stripped threadbare and you cannot help but get sucked into their world. Such is the dexterity of the brilliant director.
Most of the new faces leave a mark with their raw and intense portrayal but towering above them are Antony Varghese as the narrator and lead Vincent Pepe and Sarath Kumar as the volatile gangster Appani Ravi. Am sure we will be seeing a lot more of them in coming times..

Do not miss this ride into Angamaly and it's myriad bunch of whacky characters who will seduce you into sharing a 10ml and a few portions of pork fry with them! This is their world, their story and Angamaly Diaries is nothing but a few sweat and blood stained pages of that story!
