This intense family-oriented drama delves into deep social issues like euthanasia through the twists and turns in the life of Mamata, a beautiful and bold young woman.
From the very first moment she meets Gautam, she develops a strong attraction and liking for him, but she never expresses her feelings. Then, in a tragic sequence of events, Mamata is forced to endure tremendous financial strain, and while desperately searching for a way to gain an income, she is misled by a friend into the sex trade. After tremendous struggle, she succeeds in escaping her predicament.
Then, in a serendipitous twist, Gautam comes back into her life and this time they get married. Life begins to look up as the young couple have a son, but soon things take a terrible turn,, when Gautam's father is diagnosed with a terminal illness.
In the process of treatment for this incurable condition the family is forced to endure tremendous expenditure. When they begin to drown under the terrible burden of medical expenses, the couple start having disagreements. The financial crisis causes such tension and friction between them that they drift apart.
Finally, in a moment of desperation and weakness, Gautam goes almost as far as to request the doctor for euthanasia, but stops short realising it to be the greatest sin to kill one's father. However, to Gautam's shock, his father is found dead due to the injection. Gautam is arrested and Mamata accuses him of killing his own father.
In court, a lawyer is able to save Gautam from the death penalty. It is concluded that his father unable to bear his pain and his son's plight had himself administered the lethal injection. His bandaged fingers did not leave any finger prints on the syringe. The estranged couple reunite.
