Stern Abla runs a small bakery in the house she shares with her eight-year-old daughter Warda. One day their routine is disturbed by an unexpected knock at the door. A weary woman named Samia is looking for a temporary place to stay in exchange for work. All alone and heavily pregnant, Samia comes across many things in conservative Morocco, but understanding isn’t one of them. Talented newcomer Maryam Touzani's understated drama about the magical power of human solidarity, delicious pastries, and Moroccan music was cheered by audiences at this year’s Cannes fest, where it competed in Un Certain Regard.
