Abhagini (1991)

Evocative and provocative, this family-oriented romantic drama depicts the twists and turns in the life of Abhagi, a beautiful young girl who is forced to endure great tragedy in her life. When her mother passes away, her father is placed in a position where he is left with no other option but to remarry.

Unfortunately however, Abhagi's new step-mother takes to strong dislike to her and begins to abuse and torture her. Unable to watch his daughter's suffering, her father takes a bold decision. He decides to send Abhagi to go and live with a man who used to be his student. This old student has grown up to become a wealthy businessman in the city.

Abhagi goes to the big city and must learn to adapt to the ways of the household that is to be her home from here on. Of all the new relationships she must forge, one of the most important is with Avijit, the errant son of the wealthy businessman. How will her relationship with Avijit pan out? What does the future hold in store for both of them?
