Trivia:
Director Robert Rodriguez edited the movie in his "garage", which is actually a state of the art editing studio that is in his home. He just calls it his garage.

Carla Gugino was initially reluctant to accept the role of Ingrid Cortez, feeling that she was too young, at the age of 29, to have an 8 year-old boy and a 12 year old girl as her children. Director Robert Rodriguez told her that his own mother had him and all of his siblings by the time she was thirty, and they were a similar age as the kids in the movie. Gugino was reassured and ultimately accepted the role of Ingrid Cortez.

The Thumb-Thumbs are based on one of director Robert Rodriguez's childhood drawings.
